This is a quick round-up of the eateries we enjoyed on our South Canterbury trip with our three girls this year (hence no fine dining). Locals know their wine in this region so no surprise Diceywas on all the menus. Driving around South Canterbury and Central Otago was like great wine bingo. Fantastic to see so many vineyards producing the Kiwi wines we are proud to sell.
Fish Tail.
This delight of an Indian restaurant has three stores down south, Twizel, Alexandra and Waimate. We visited the Twizel restaurant exhausted after a final day of Spring skiing at the Ohau field.
The food and service were faultless, they were flat-out busy with seated diners and takeaway collections. I would recommend booking.
It is named for Machhapuchhre mountain in Nepali meaning "fishtail". It is a mountain in the Annapurna Himalayas of north-central Nepal.

Jasmine Thai
We had no chance of a table, not only were they chocka but the takeaway clamour was serious! I highly recommend booking and or placing orders early.
Service was fast and pleasant and the food was fantastic.

High Country Salmon
After visiting the Marlborough Salmon farms on a media trip 10 or so years ago I was reluctant to visit another Salmon farm. However, this place was great, no smell, fantastic food and one of the best-curated shops of all the tourism stores we saw along the way.
Note:
The Twizel bakery pies are outstanding, the same are served in the hut up the ski field. If you are only passing through, take a moment for one of these.
The meals at Ohau Lodge where we spent 6 nights were consistently outstanding. Meals are bistro style, at mixed tables, i.e. you are seated with other guests. This is a thoroughly good exercise for refreshing social skills.
We also really enjoyed the buffet at The Hermitage, Mt Cook.
Without a doubt a must-visit addition to the Auckland food scene.
From auspicious and trendy beginnings in a food truck behind music studios in Penrose, Little Sicily now has a permanent home in a main road Onehunga pub.
The address is 190 Onehunga Mall (in the old sense of the word, i.e main street) Parking is around the back, but we found plenty of parking on the street on a Sunday.
