Tasting Notes: A bright perfumed, supple expression of Marlborough pinot noir from clay hill slopes. The fruit is supported by bright florals of rose and violets with crunchy red berry fruit and dried herb notes. The palate is succulent with alluring red cherry, brown spices and silky fine boned tannins. This wine has all the makings of a long lived Marlborough pinot noir and matches perfectly with duck, red meats (particularly venison and lamb), and mushroom dishes.

Ripe, fruity, varietal and complex bouquet with aromas of red cherry and raspberry flesh, some red licorice and vanilla, layers of wood smoke and plum then a clay stone mineral quality. These ideas repeat and come alive on the palate with youthful polished tannins and acidity for contrast. Dry and delicious with salivating textures and flavours, fresh red fruits and barrel spice highlights and a lengthy finish with complexity and charm. Best drinking from 2023 through 2030.
Dog Point Vineyard: The largest organic Biogro certified vineyard in New Zealand. Since 2009, Dog Point began organic conversion in the vineyards. One of the initiatives we carry out as part of our organic regime is the turning of vine pruning and winery waste into mulch to create a healthy organic compost for use on plantings throughout the property. We also collect leachate from this process and apply it to the vineyards as fertiliser to help conserve moisture and improve the soil structure.
In spring, we plant cover crops such as buckwheat and phacelia between the vines to encourage beneficial insects for biological control of insect pests. Over the winter months, 2500 sheep and 25 steers are brought onto the property to control grass and weed growth and assist in adding organic matter to the soil.
It is an authentic working farm property with organic philosophies at the centre, with the focus on producing premium quality wine utilising environmentally friendly and responsible practices.
