Tasting Notes
Aromas of vanilla and apricot at first followed by fresh citrus notes and a touch of crème brûlée. A fresh palate of pink grapefruit, ripe melon, apricot, toasty almond and hints of lemon zest on the finish. Winemaker: Cullen Neal.
A beautifully crafted single-vineyard Marlborough Chardonnay from a tiny organic plot, showing real complexity and elegance from rare clones and minimal intervention winemaking.
Why you'll love it: This is a genuine small-producer wine: 722 vines, rare Chardonnay clones, planted and grown organically from scratch. The kind of wine that earns its place through precision and character rather than volume.
The Vineyard
The Gee Street vineyard in Renwick was planted in 2016 using three rare Chardonnay clones: primarily clone 548, with small amounts of 1066 and 121. Unusually for New Zealand, the vineyard was established under organic management from planting rather than converted. BioGro certified, vineyard number 5186.
About Windrush Organic
Callum and Sarah Linklater are second-generation organic growers based in Marlborough. Callum's father Bill began the family's organic farming journey with sheep and beef in Otago, questioning the need for chemicals that hadn't been required in earlier generations. When the family moved to Marlborough in 2008, organic certification followed naturally. Windrush is the name of the family's first vineyard. The Linklaters grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc across certified organic vineyards surrounding Renwick, supplying premium organic fruit to wineries and producing their own single-vineyard wines under the Windrush Organic label.
Perfect with roast chicken with tarragon butter, a creamy porcini risotto, or pan-seared snapper. The stone-fruit richness and fine acidity make this a natural partner to both seafood and poultry.
