Central Otago | Bannockburn Estate | Benchmark Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
Expressive and fragrant showing pretty florals, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, thyme, spice and charry oak. The palate is sweet on entry with dark cherry, black Doris plum, blackberry, red currant, mushroom and dark chocolate. Medium bodied, concentrated, finely balanced and very complex. Velvety silky fine tannin that leads into a very long mineral and plum finish.
A silky, layered Central Otago Pinot Noir with real complexity and length.
Why you'll love it: a benchmark estate Pinot from one of Bannockburn's defining names, velvety and concentrated, drinking beautifully now with the structure to hold for years.
The Awards
Gold, National Wine Awards of Aotearoa New Zealand 2024.
The Wine
Estate-grown fruit from Akarua's Cairnmuir Road vineyard in Bannockburn, matured in French oak.
About Akarua
Akarua is a pioneering Bannockburn estate, founded in 1996 and one of the largest family-grown operations in Central Otago. Its name means 'two vines' in Māori, a nod to the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay first planted on the Cairnmuir site. Since 2022 it has been owned by Edmond de Rothschild Heritage, which is converting the estate to certified organics, and the wines remain estate-grown beneath the foothills of the Bannockburn range.
Perfect with duck confit, wild mushroom risotto, or soft-rind cheeses like brie or camembert.
