Tasting Notes

Ripe pineapple, lemon blossom and subtle vanilla; lush, rounded and generous with a hint of butterscotch on the finish. With subtle complexity, almond, citrus and white peach aromas are underpinned by a 'mineral' crushed gravel note. The palate is seamless with rich mid-palate texture from lees contact and refreshing, fine acidity that leaves a long-lasting, impressive finish.

A generous yet finely balanced Marlborough Chardonnay, with lees-derived texture and a long, fresh finish.

About Catalina Sounds

Founded in 2005 in Marlborough's Waihopai Valley, Catalina Sounds takes its name from the Catalina flying boats that once crossed the Marlborough Sounds. The estate works across selected sites in the Southern Valleys, Wairau and Awatere, with a good share of fruit from its home Sound of White vineyard, planted in 2008. Winemaking is deliberately low intervention, letting each sub-region speak clearly. Sauvignon Blanc remains the hero, with the range now spanning Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, all built on the same attention to site and detail.

Perfect with roast chicken, seafood chowder, or creamy mushroom pasta. The texture and gentle oak handle richer dishes while the fine acidity keeps everything fresh.
