A Marlborough Pinot Gris from Catalina Sounds, drawn off three sub-regional sites for a distinctly local expression.
Pure NZ Excellence | Local Terroir | Beautiful NZ Wine
Tasting Notes
Ripe nashi pear, rose apple, white nougat and vanilla bean aromatics. The wine is plush, fleshy and juicy, with ripe mid-palate fruit and a crisp racy finish that appears dry but is balanced with a little residual sugar.
An approachable, just off-dry Marlborough Pinot Gris with stone-fruit weight and a clean, refreshing close.
Why you'll love it: easy to open any night of the week, with just enough richness and a whisper of sweetness to carry a little spice or a creamy dish.
The Blend
Sourced across three Marlborough sub-regions for balance and complexity: Southern Valleys (65%), Awatere Valley (20%) and Wairau Valley (15%).
About Catalina Sounds
Founded in 2005 in Marlborough's Waihopai Valley, Catalina Sounds takes its name from the Catalina flying boats that once crossed the Marlborough Sounds. The estate works across selected sites in the Southern Valleys, Wairau and Awatere, with a good share of fruit from its home Sound of White vineyard, planted in 2008. Winemaking is deliberately low intervention, letting each sub-region speak clearly. Sauvignon Blanc remains the hero, with the range now spanning Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, all built on the same attention to site and detail.
Perfect with crispy pork belly, a mild Thai green curry, or a ripe washed-rind cheese. The stone-fruit weight and touch of residual sugar carry gentle spice and richness beautifully.
