A Marlborough Pinot Noir from Catalina Sounds, grown in the Waihopai Valley for fragrance, plushness and fine structure.

Pure NZ Excellence | Local Terroir | Beautiful NZ Wine

Tasting Notes

Quite dark and brooding on the nose initially but opens up to reveal beautiful blue and crunchy red fruit that sits nicely alongside the earthy spice of newer oak. The palate is quite plush, with ripe dark fruit and finely powdered tannins.

A supple, fragrant Marlborough Pinot Noir balancing ripe dark fruit with fine, polished tannins.

Why you'll love it: approachable now yet structured enough to keep, an easy red to bring to the table any night of the week.

Reviews

93 points, Cameron Douglas MS (April 2025): "Great colour, concentration and bouquet of dark cherry and plum."

About Catalina Sounds

Founded in 2005 in Marlborough's Waihopai Valley, Catalina Sounds takes its name from the Catalina flying boats that once crossed the Marlborough Sounds. The estate works across selected sites in the Southern Valleys, Wairau and Awatere, with a good share of fruit from its home Sound of White vineyard, planted in 2008. Winemaking is deliberately low intervention, letting each sub-region speak clearly. Sauvignon Blanc remains the hero, with the range now spanning Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, all built on the same attention to site and detail.

Perfect with crispy duck pancakes, grilled quail, or seared salmon with roasted beetroot. The bright fruit and fine tannins suit savoury, lightly spiced dishes.
