Tasting Notes

Deep straw in colour. Warm tones of ripe citrus are complemented by savoury, mealy notes developed over time on lees. Fine-grained oak sits subtly in the background, adding layers and a thread of gentle smoke that unites fruit and wood. The palate leads with pure citrus, developing into nutty complexity and hints of oatmeal. Glycerol texture and slippery, saline acidity keep it fresh and focused. A Chardonnay with impressive drinkability.

Drinking beautifully now, with the structure to cellar for ten years or more.

The Wine

One hundred per cent Chardonnay from New Zealand's largest BioGro-certified vineyard. Wild fermented, aged in French oak, unfined and bottled with minimal intervention to express purity and site.

About Dog Point

Dog Point sits at the meeting of the Brancott and Omaka Valleys in Marlborough, one of the region's oldest privately established vineyards and now New Zealand's largest BioGro-certified organic site. Organic conversion began in 2009, and the estate farms with cover crops, sheep and cattle for weed control, and composted vine prunings returned to the soil. Fruit is hand-picked from low-cropped vines, and the wines are made with a low intervention, hands-off approach. They are vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free, and built to cellar.

Perfect with: crayfish, charred cauliflower, or a creamy risotto.
