Tasting Notes Greystone Organic Chardonnay 2024
Pale lemon in colour with aromas of ripe nectarine and pink grapefruit. Toasted almonds and bran appear with some fine blossom too. Rich mouth-feel with exotic spice and lemon pith, balanced with a lengthy mineral spine.
Outstanding organic Chardonnay from North Canterbury's limestone slopes—Chablis-like minerality with exceptional aging potential.
Reviews
Cameron Douglas MS — 95 Points: "Complex, enticing and packed with scents of soil and place. Aromas of seashells and lemons, crisp red apple and grapefruits, white peach and soil-smoke. Dry, taut, youthful, fresh and utterly delicious. A wine that reminds me of outstanding Chablis with its signature mineral the lees and flinty fruit core. The acid line is pristine adding mouthfeel and length as well as carrying fruit and mineral flavours. Best drinking from 2025 through 2030+."
The Vineyard
Grown on the Omihi hills' remarkable limestone slopes, the Thomas family planted thirteen blocks across 40 hectares from 2004. Dom Maxwell, the winemaker, has been there from the first vine planting, renowned for his experiments in vineyard fermentation. All Greystone wines are grown, made and bottled on site in their strawbale winery.
About Greystone
In 2000 the Thomas family purchased an old sheep farm because of its amazing limestone slopes and set out to craft wines expressing North Canterbury's unique terroir. Greystone is 100% certified organic with BioGro and practises regenerative agriculture throughout its vineyards—safeguarding healthy soils, waterways, biodiversity, and habitat for bees and beneficial insects. Perfect with roasted chicken, lobster thermidor, or creamy pasta. The rich texture and mineral backbone complement buttery and cream-based dishes beautifully.
