Greystone Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is an organic, barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc from the Omihi hills of North Canterbury, a world away from the usual Marlborough style.

BioGro Organic | North Canterbury | 94 Points Wine Orbit

Tasting Notes

Lemon in colour with a full aromatic display of citrus, tropical fruits, snow pea, and subtle oak complexity. The palate is concentrated, and textural supported by fresh acidity and a long mineral finish. Ripe fruit flavours unfold throughout.

A serious, organic, barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc with texture and mineral length.

Why you'll love it: If you think you know Sauvignon Blanc, this rewrites the rules, barrel-fermented and textural rather than zingy and green, with real depth and a long finish.

Reviews

94 points, Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, January 2024: Fabulously aromatic with elegant complexity, the bouquet shows apricot, green rockmelon, lime peel and oatmeal characters, followed by a wonderfully flavoursome palate delivering terrific fruit power backed by fine texture and vibrant acidity. Mouthfilling and lively, offering splendid drinking. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2030.

93 points, Excellent, Cameron Douglas MS, January 2024: "A delicious and enticing wine."

About Greystone

Greystone sits on the limestone slopes of the Omihi hills in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury, where the Thomas family planted the estate from 2000. Every wine is estate-grown, fully certified organic with BioGro New Zealand, and grown, made and bottled on site, with Dom Maxwell winemaking since the early days. The north-facing limestone hills give the wines their mineral drive and concentration, and a minimal-intervention philosophy lets the soil, vines and season speak for themselves.

Perfect with grilled fish, roast chicken, or creamy goat's cheese. The texture and gentle oak handle richer dishes that would overwhelm a lighter Sauvignon Blanc.
