Hawke's Bay | Food-Friendly | Rich NZ Pinot Gris
Tasting Notes
Ripe Nashi pears are complemented by exotic aromas of sweet spices (think cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg), rose water and spicy glacé ginger. The wine is rich and opulent in the mouth with a soft, mouthcoating texture balanced by refreshing acidity. Excellent persistence of flavour, and a lingering spicy finish, ensure the wine is satisfying either on its own, or partnered with a wide range of foods, particularly Asian-inspired dishes.
A rich, spice-laden Pinot Gris with the freshness to stay food-friendly.
Why you'll love it: A generous, aromatic Pinot Gris for those who like a little richness and spice in their white. Lovely on its own, but it really comes alive alongside fragrant, Asian-inspired food.
The Style
This is Pinot Gris made in a richer, more textural style, the ripe Hawke's Bay fruit and gentle spice given weight and a soft, mouth-filling feel, then balanced by fresh acidity so it stays lively at the table rather than heavy.
About Trinity Hill
Trinity Hill was founded in 1993 as one of the early pioneers of Hawke's Bay's Gimblett Gravels, the free-draining, stony district laid down by the old Ngaruroro River and now recognised as one of New Zealand's benchmark sites for Syrah and Chardonnay. The idea was hatched over dinner at London's Bleeding Heart restaurant, and more than thirty years on the winery is known internationally for its food-friendly, terroir-driven reds and whites, led by its icon Syrah, Homage. Chief winemaker Warren Gibson has guided the cellar since 1997, a quality-over-quantity approach that has made Trinity Hill a fixture on serious restaurant lists.
Perfect with an aromatic Thai curry, pork belly with apple, or a spiced pumpkin dish. Its ripe pear, spice and soft texture love fragrant, lightly sweet flavours.
